App for skyscraper museum I wanted the users to feel the whole city as a museum. The art frame and the audio guide is played when the building is detected. I use the paintings and description panel as a reference.

AR interactions in the urban space
When I walk around the city, I see so many historical buildings. I was interested what those buildings are and the history. I wanted to make an educational application to teach users the information (including history) of the buildings in NYC. Show past building photos, audio guide. It can be an additional app for Museum of Skyscrapers in NYC. Pick an object that has personality. Do you talk to it? do you attribute it a name or human characteristics? Why do you think it has character? What are its traits?
Think of and define a concept for an augmented object. Think how you would augment it. Would you be extending its functions, augmenting its interface? Would you be giving it some life and personality? While choosing my object, I was wondering what object do I carry everyday in my life. I looked up in the bag and found that I always take my wallet and cellphone. Then I looked in to the wallet and saw my NYU ID card. It is the card that verifies who you are. Without it, even though I am still "Il Eun", I can not get in to the school building. That small card was like a proof of myself. It would be fun if everyone has their own avatar augmented on top of their ID card. I wanted to make an AR book with my sketches. So when sketches are detected, short gif animation will play with different sounds that I've recorded in the Washington Square Park. Also, for the sound, I recorded the ambient noises in the park. And I did some interviews with people who are reading books. Somehow, I weren't able to figure out how to upload a gif file in Vuforia. So I made an alternative by using the 3d butterfly figure. The recorded sound will trigger also. Create a spatial augmented reality experience. Find an element from a space, room or wall and augment it.
Tools: Processing I wanted to make a digital version of mosaic art. I set up the picture frame on the wall and projected with UO Smart Beam Laser Projector. Through webcam, it interacts with the user realtime. |
